Private Estate, Mpumalanga Highlands
This holiday home in Walkerson’s Private Estate in the Mpumalanga Highlands was designed in collaboration with Centreline Architects. Nestled between large cypress trees on a steep site, it feels like a treehouse with incredible views of the river below and the mountains beyond.Â
The primary concept was to design a space that flows seamlessly from inside to outside and embraces the surrounding landscape. All interior walls and ceilings are painted black (and are free of artworks or decoration) to avoid distracting from the spectacular views.Â
The house is compact but accommodates three en-suite bedrooms, with an additional large loft for the children that can be arranged as they wish. The kitchen, dining and lounge spaces are configured around a central fireplace, which forms the heart of the house, especially during cold and misty winters.Â
Through the seasons, the house has many faces, always offering the residents an intimate experience of the beautiful natural surroundings.
