The new Stanley Studio development is located in the heart of Milpark opposite the popular 44 Stanley development.
The new development is a mix use development with retail and office space fronting Stanley Street and residential units on the remainder of the site. The existing retail mall will be demolished and the vertical access to the basement and the Virgin Active Gym will remain as is. The current gym will remain and be operational during the construction process of the new buildings above.
The existing super basement below the Virgin Active gym will provide for ample parking for the apartment tenants. Three retail spaces on the Stanley street side of the project responds to the vibrant street life and serves as a barrier between the street and the apartment units, ensuring a more tranquil atmosphere for the residents. Two office floor levels are above the retail space and accessed from the green courtyard space. The office look out over Stanley Street. The 197 apartments are predominantly studio apartments built around courtyard spaces with direct accessibility for the ground floor units.
The apartment blocks will be built on 3 levels and are orientated north to take maximum advantage of natural light. A pool and entertainment area is planned in the sunny northern corner of the development and amenities will include braai facilities and a small function room.
The development will have a combination of heat pumps and solar heating for the hot water generation of the apartments and all fire compliance will be adhered to. The existing foundations of the development will not be reinforced and in order to achieve the optimal construction method for the development, a lightweight structure is introduced.
